Fibrin thrombi, a cause of clindamycin-associated colitis?
Rectal biopsies from five patients with clindamycin-associated colitis were studied with the intention of identifying fibrin thrombi in capillaries. Capillary thrombosis was present in all five cases, three with pseudomembranous colitis and two with non-specific colitis. The significance of capillary thrombosis and its relationship to other ischaemic lesions of the gut are discussed.
متن کاملHigh‐resolution microbiota flow cytometry reveals dynamic colitis‐associated changes in fecal bacterial composition
Using high-resolution flow cytometry of bacterial shape (forward scatter) and DNA content (DAPI staining), we detected dramatic differences in the fecal microbiota composition during murine colitis that were validated using 16S rDNA sequencing. This innovative method provides a fast and inexpensive tool to interrogate the microbiota on the single-cell level.
متن کاملEffect of clindamycin and lincomycin therapy on faecal flora.
Bacterial counts were carried out on the faeces of 160 patients receiving clindamycin or lincomycin treatment for bacterial infections. In all the patients the total bacteroides count was significantly reduced while strains of Enterobacteriaciae, yeasts, and streptococci were correspondingly increased. Severe diarrhoea developed in 25 (16%) patients, but this could not be related to a change in...
متن کاملCecal and fecal bacterial flora of the Mongolian gerbil and the chinchilla.
The Mongolian gerbil is being increasingly used as a laboratory animal and as a pet. Both chinchillas and gerbils are used as animal models for otitis media and other otic research. Previously, only incomplete information was available regarding the indigenous bacterial flora of the lower intestinal tracts of these coprophagic animals. Using the strict anaerobic methodology of the Virginia Poly...
متن کاملHuman fecal flora: the normal flora of 20 Japanese-Hawaiians.
Quantitative and qualitative examination of the fecal flora of 20 clinically healthy Japanese-Hawaiian males was carried out by using anaerobic tube culture techniques. Cultural counts were 93% of the microscopic clump counts. Isolated colonies were selected in a randomized manner to give an unbiased sampling of the viable bacterial types. Each isolate was characterized for species identificati...
